Cessationism

Cessationism is the Biblical teaching that certain gifts of the Holy Spirit were intended and given for a purpose that has since been fulfilled.  Today, we don’t expect to receive the gift of tongues, prophecy, words of knowledge, or power to miraculously heal the sick.

Obviously this is a controversial doctrine as there are many denominations and cults that have to believe in modern prophetic gifts at the very least to even exist.  The fact is though that the Bible is very clear on this issue.

The first post in this series gives a general overview.  Each one following delves into a particular aspect relevant to Cessationism.
